TADB emerges as regional model for development finance institutions

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) has earned global recognition after being ranked among the top Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in Africa, cementing its position as a role model for peer institutions across the continent.
In June 2024, TADB was ranked second best among DFIs in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states during an evaluation conducted by the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI).
The assessment used the Prudential Standards, Guidelines, and Rating System (PSGRS), designed in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB). Under this evaluation, TADB scored an impressive 91percent, excelling in key areas such as good governance, financial prudence, and effective execution of its mandate.
TADB Managing Director Frank Nyabundege said the achievement reflects the bank’s commitment to driving agricultural transformation and strengthening Tanzania’s economic growth.
“These results prove that TADB is not only an engine for agricultural development in Tanzania but also a benchmark for Africa. We are proud that peers from other countries are visiting us to learn from our experience,” said Nyabundege.

The recognition has attracted strong interest from global development partners, including Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), which have both commended TADB as a successful example of a modern DFI.
TADB’s performance has also turned it into a learning hub for foreign institutions. Organizations that have visited to draw lessons from its model include Zambia Credit Guarantee Scheme Limited, National Savings and Credit Bank of Zambia, FINAGRO of Colombia, and Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
