Survey: 83 pc committed to vote on Wednesday’s polls

DAR ES SALAAM: A LATEST survey has revealed that 83 per cent of eligible voters in Tanzania intend to fully participate in Wednesday’s General Election.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday during the release of the latest survey, the Director of Research and Publications at the Centre for International Policy-Africa (CIP-Africa), Mr Thabiti Mlangi said the survey was conducted to assess voter engagement ahead of the election.
Tanzania is set for presidential, parliamentary and councillorship General Election on October 29th this year.
The survey involved 1,976 respondents, all of whom were eligible voters, registered and in possession of voter identification cards. Mr Mlangi noted that 53 per cent of respondents reported attending political campaign rallies.
Of these, 76 per cent had attended rallies organised by Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), 15 per cent had attended ACT-Wazalendo rallies, 2 per cent had attended Chama cha Ukombozi wa Umma (CHAUMMA) rallies, while 7 per cent said they had attended rallies held by more than one political party.
“Regarding participation in political campaign meetings ahead of the presidential, parliamentary and councillorship elections, 53 per cent of respondents took part in political rallies. Among them, 76 per cent attended CCM rallies, 15 per cent attended ACT-Wazalendo rallies, 2 per cent attended CHAUMMA rallies, and 7 per cent participated in rallies organised by more than one party,” Mr Mlangi elaborated.
He also highlighted key issues raised by citizens during the survey, noting that many expect the next president to prioritise pressing issues such as water supply, road and bridge infrastructure, anti-corruption efforts and improved access to quality education.

In addition, respondents, particularly from the Ilala and Segerea areas of Dar es Salaam, expressed concern over the growing involvement of students in drug use, especially marijuana and urged the incoming leadership to address the issue with urgency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently announced that the total number of eligible voters for the 2025 General Election has reached 37,647,235.
The updated figure follows the final processing of voter data from the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) and represents a 26.53 per cent increase compared to the 29,754,699 voters recorded in the 2020 Voter Register.
