State to cover expenses of flood victims in Hanang

UAE, Dubai: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to ensure that the government covers the funeral expenses for people who lost their lives in the floods in Hanang District, Manyara Region on Sunday.
The directives align with the provision of necessary medical treatment at the government’s expense for all those injured, as security and emergency services continued with efforts to provide assistance.
According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications, President Samia equally tasked the Regional Government and the Disaster Management Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office to ensure that citizens whose homes have been swept away by mudslides get temporary shelters and accommodation.
The current death toll has climbed to 50, with over 80 injured individuals being transported to various medical facilities, including Tumaini District Hospital in Hanang District, Manyara Referral Hospital, and Babati District Council Marara Hospital.
The impact of the disaster extends to 1,150 households, affecting 5,600 people, and an estimated 750 acres of farmland have been severely damaged.
