State intensifies fight against child sexual abuse
DODOMA: THE government is in the final stages of preparing the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Amendment) Bill, which is expected to address and curb acts of violation in society.
Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr Damas Ndumbaro, disclosed this to the august House yesterday while responding to a question from Special Seats MP Najma Giga (CCM) who sought to know the government’s plans regarding the introduction of a Bill aimed at protecting girl children who are subjected to homosexuality.
Dr Ndumbaro said that under the proposed Bill, Section 176 of the Penal Code, Cap. 16, has been earmarked for amendment.
He explained that on July 15, 2023, President Samia Suluhu Hassan received a report from the Commission tasked with reviewing the criminal justice system.
“Among the recommendations was the amendment of various criminal justice laws, including the Penal Code, Cap. 16,” the minister said.
He added: “The government has continued to implement the Commission’s recommendations and is currently in the final stages of preparing the Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Amendment) Bill.
The minister added that Section 176 of the Penal Code, Cap. 16, has been proposed for amendment to address and curb acts of violation.”

In her follow-up question, the MP asked whether the government sees the importance of engaging key stakeholders in educating the public about the issue, which she described as an unacceptable behaviour in society.
