Stage set to deliberate media landscape
DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye on Monday announced that the symposium to be held today is specifically aimed at evaluating the progress of the media industry in the country.
Speaking on Monday at a press conference in Dar es Salaam while inspecting the preparations for the symposium, Mr Nape stated that President Samia Suluhu Hassan will grace the event, which is expected to delve deeply into the future of the media industry in the country.
He said that the two-day symposium is dedicated to assessing the development of the sector as directed by President Samia.
“As you may recall, when President Samia took office, she instructed that we conduct annual evaluation of the sector’s performance. This symposium is being held annually, but last year’s edition was postponed due to reasons beyond our control,” said Mr Nape.
Moreover, Mr Nape expressed satisfaction with the level of progress in the preparations for the meeting. He noted that he had received information indicating that invited guests and journalists from across the country have already arrived in Dar es Salaam for the event.
The symposium will see journalists engaging in numerous professional discussions about the industry. We will also hold meetings with government media officers to deliberate on the sector,” explained Mr Nape.
Additionally, Nape stated that one of the key issues of the symposium will involve presentation of economic status report of media houses in the country.
“Tomorrow (today), we will publicly release the economic assessment report of media houses in the country. You will recall that we formed a team to conduct assessment of the economic status of media organisations.
“The report is complete and has been submitted to the President. We have already compiled the report, and tomorrow we will present it to the President,” explained Mr Nape.
