Sports fraternity pays tribute to passing Mwankemwa
DAR ES SALAAM: COUNTRY sports fraternity has received with profound shock the death of the Azam FC’s club doctor, Mwanandi Mwankemwa who passed away at Temeke District Hospital on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
Azam FC’s Information and Communications Manager Thabiti Zakaria confirmed the bad news in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Mwankenwa has served Azam for 16 years since the team was promoted to Tanzania Mainland Premier League in 2008 and throughout his tenure, he played a crucial role in accompanying players during both local and international medical treatments.
Following his death, the two giants’ clubs in Tanzania Simba SC and Young African were touched by the passing of the doctor, with each team leaving a heart-warming message for the doctor’s family.
Via their Instagram page, the Jagwani based, Yanga wrote “Young Africans Sports Club has received the tragic news of the passing of Mwanandi Mwankemwa who used to be the Azam doctor, that happened on Tuesday at the Temeke Regional Referral Hospital,”
“The club sends its condolences to the Azam FC leadership, family and friends, including football stakeholders in the country as we also pray for the almighty God to give them strength during this difficult time.”
On their part, Simba SC Reds through their Instagram page wrote, “Simba SC leadership has received with regret the tragic news about the passing of Azam FC, great doctor Mwanandi Mwankemwa,”
“Simba joins family, Azam Club and football stakeholders to mourn the passing of Mwanandi who has left a huge mark on the sports medical industry.”
Mwankemwa initially entered the field of sports medicine in 1982, starting with JKT Ruvu. His contributions to nurturing athletes and his dedication to their well-being will be remembered.
