Smart Boy wins maiden Gospel Singeli award

DAR ES SALAAM: FOR  the first time in the history of Gospel music awards in Tanzania, the fusion of Gospel and Singeli genre  has been officially recognized, with artist Emmanuel Peter, popularly known as Smart Boy, winning the inaugural Gospel Singeli category at the 2025 East Africa Gospel Music Awards (EAGMA).

The milestone moment took place during a special awards ceremony marking the conclusion of this year’s EAGMA season. Speaking at the event, EAGMA Chief Executive Officer Magreth Chacha praised the innovative contribution of Gospel Singeli to spreading the Word of God.

“Today I have three important messages: First, to express gratitude to all stakeholders across East Africa who supported these awards. Second, to announce the winner in the highly competitive Gospel Singeli category,” said Chacha.

She confirmed that Smart Boy clinched the award with his hit song “Singeli ya Yesu,” outvoting other strong contenders such as Boni Mwaitege (Pesa), Pius Wilson (Mchungaji Wangu), Deliv Shuma (Mbingu Zimefunguka), Survival Gospel Choir (Waharibie), and Kibonge wa Yesu (Kibonge wa Yesu).

“This category received a great response, and Smart Boy emerged with the highest number of votes,” Chacha added.

“Our vision is to promote Gospel music, inspire artists, and use music as a tool for positive social transformation,” said Chacha.

Reacting to his win, Smart Boy expressed immense gratitude to the organizers and his supporters, stating that the award has motivated him to continue enhancing his Gospel music through the Singeli genre.

“This award is not just mine – it belongs to all the fans and believers who trust that the Gospel can reach every corner, even through Singeli beats,” he said. “I’m more inspired than ever to create excellent music for the glory of God.”
