Singida Police rack up over 4,000 offenses in December

SINGIDA: Police in Singida Region reported a total of 4,360 traffic offenses recorded in December 2024 as part of a special road safety operation aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws.

According to Singida Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Amon Kakwale, 4,358 of the cases were resolved through fines. However, two drivers faced severe penalties, including the suspension of their driving licenses.

The first driver identified was Jumanne Haji Jumanne, a driver for Kapriconi Bus Company, who was caught speeding at 102 km/h—well above the legal limit of 80 km/h.

The second driver, Iddy Mussa Chizumi of Red Belt Company, was found guilty of overloading passengers beyond the vehicle’s capacity.

In addition to the road safety operation, the police conducted broader crime prevention initiatives throughout December, which led to the arrest of 51 suspects.

Among those arrested were four individuals accused of tampering with TANESCO infrastructure, including the theft of two transformers. Police also seized motorcycles from five suspects, who are believed to have stolen them, and arrested eight individuals found in possession of 974 grams of marijuana.

SACP Kakwale noted that significant legal actions were also taken, with 40 individuals convicted of various offenses. Among them, seven were convicted of murder, one for human trafficking, and two for rape.
