Simba’s Davids relish tactics

TANZANIA: SIMBA Coach, Fadlu Davids has commended his charges for high-pressing tactics against Azam that helped them produce a convincing 2-0 win at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar on Thursday.

Newly signed Cameroonian striker, Leonel Ateba and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) import, Fabrice Ngoma scored in each half of the match to hand their team a sweet away win.

It was Simba’s third straight win of the campaign, and they have generated nine points and netted nine goals without conceding a convincing start for them.

“For sure, it means a lot to win a derby, and we analysed well our game plan…the first half was good and in terms of our pressing traps, it really went well.

“I think we should have scored two to three goals, and I was interested to see how long we would be able to keep the intensity of the match just three days after playing against Al Ahly Tripoli.

“In the second half, we started to get tired, which is why I made triple substitutions, but the boys fought well and do not forget that we have another game on Sunday,” Davids said.

Commenting about the Man of the Match Award won by his goalkeeper Moussa Camara, he said it was amazing that he won the b accord without making any big saves throughout the encounter.

“I think his presence, calmness and his abilities to communicate have necessitated him to be man of the match…also, credit to the goalkeeping coach for ensuring that he is getting better game after game,” he said.

On his part, Azam Coach, Rachid Taoussi, pressed on the need to install a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the league to improve efficiency in referring.

“We need to have VAR in order to make good decisions and to say the truth,” said the Moroccan trainer.

Further, Taoussi commended his charges’ performance, highlighting they did good job despite the defeat.

As it stands, Simba are now third on the table with nine points from three games, just three points behind leaders Singida Black Stars who have 12 points from four games.

Their next game will be against Dodoma Jiji at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma on Sunday, hunting for other maximum points.

Azam are fourth on the table with eight points from five matches and their next game will be against Mashujaa at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma on Sunday.
