Simba take league command

KAGERA: SIMBA took command of the Mainland Premier League with a convincing 5-2 victory against Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium in Kagera on Saturday.

The triumph not only secured three vital points but also propelled them to the summit of the league table, now boasting 34 points, overtaking Azam FC, who are on 33 points. Right from the kick-off, it was clear that Simba intended to control the game.

Their early pressure paid off in the 13th minute when Shomari Kapombe beautifully converted a cross from left-back Mohamed Hussein, giving Simba a 1-0 lead.

Kagera Sugar struggled to find their rhythm, often thwarted by Simba’s solid defence and impressive goalkeeping by Moussa Camara.

Despite Kagera’s attempts to equalise, including a near miss from striker Peter Lwasa in the 31st minute, they were unable to break through Simba’s resolute backline.

As the first half approached its conclusion, Simba intensified their efforts and in the 45th minute, Jean Ahoua doubled with a powerful free-kick, ending the half at 2-0.

The second half saw Simba dictating the play, and in the 54th minute, Fabrice Ngoma further extended the lead, converting a well delivered corner by Ladaki Chasambi.

Stephen Mukwala found the back of the net just six minutes later, pushing Simba ahead by four goals. Kagera Sugar, however, refused to go down quietly. In the 79th minute, Peter Datius scored for the hosts, momentarily igniting hopes of a comeback.

But Mukwala quickly extinguished those hopes, scoring again shortly after with another assist from Chasambi.

Despite a late goal from Cleophace Mkandala for Kagera Sugar, it was clear that Simba had already made their mark on the match.
