Simba dwarf Namungo to bridge gap with Yanga

LINDI: SIMBA are now 2-point behind the Premier League leaders, Young Africans after their hefty 3-0 victory over Namungo at Majaliwa Stadium in Ruangwa, Lindi this evening.

After today’s victory, Simba are breathing fire very close to the leaders in a two-horse race for the title.

Simba who played  their 19th game today, have  now bagged 50 points as their traditional rivals, Yanga  still enjoy the 2-point lead with 52 points from their 20-game onslaught.

With a game in hand, Simba  can leapfrog Yanga if they win their next  game against Azam, short of that, Yanga will continue enjoying the Premier League helm.

The match against  Namungom who are under the tutelage of the former Simba coach, Juma Mgunda, was tough and tense.

The high-tension game witnessed three penalties and a red card being flashed to a Namungo player.

Samba’s overlapping defender was involved in all three penalties.

Simba’s Lionel Ateba missed the second spot kick, but Jean Ahoua converted two of them, including the first one that earned Simba a 1-0 lead at the end of the firs half.

After several attempts, Simba managed to open their goal in the mid-first half through Jean Ahoua.

They were to stamp a 2-0 lead shortly before the breather, but Ateba missed it.

Simba netted their second goal in the 73rd  minute through Jean Ahoua’s spot-kick.

Shomari Kapombe has so far created five penalties for Simba that contributed much to his team’s success in the ongoing season.

Steven Dese Mukwala sealed the goal account in the dying minutes.
