Simba aim to fix defence ahead of JKT Tanzania clash

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA will host JKT Tanzania at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam today, looking to strengthen their defence while JKT Tanzania acknowledged the challenge ahead, preparing for a tough battle against their hosts.

Simba sit at the top of the league table with 34 points from 13 games. They are a point ahead of their closest title challengers, Young Africans and Azam FC, both tied on 33 points. However, Young Africans are in second place due to a better goal difference.

Their rivals JKT Tanzania sit eighth with 19 points.

Ahead of the match, Simba’s Assistant Coach, Selemani Matola, acknowledged that it will be a tough game, as their opponents are one of the best teams in the league.

“We know today’s game will be difficult, but we are fully prepared to secure a win. While we have been achieving good results recently, we have also been conceding goals, which has been a concern for us. The coaching staff has been working hard to address this issue, focusing on tightening our defence.

“Starting from today’s match, we are hopeful that we will see significant improvements in this area and be more solid at the back, which will help us perform better as a team.”

Matola also commented on the squad rotation, stating that it will continue due to the tight schedule and back-to-back matches. “Rotation is healthy for the team and helps us maintain peak performance,” he explained.

On his part, Simba’s captain, Mohamed Hussein, also underscored that the match will be challenging, as JKT Tanzania is a strong team with experienced players. “We are ready for the match, but we know it won’t be easy. Our opponents are well-equipped and have the experience to make this a tough game,” he said.

On the other side, JKT Tanzania’s Head Coach, Ahmed Ally said his team is well-prepared despite the short preparation time, as they only had two days to get ready for the match.

“We are mentally prepared because we know we are facing a strong team in Simba, who are currently in excellent form. To be competitive against them, we need to raise our game to their level and feel comfortable on the field,” he stated.

Ally highlighted the importance of capitalising on the opportunities they create, especially by exploiting Simba’s weaknesses. “Simba are stronger in midfield and they use that strength to create goals, particularly in wide areas. We have worked on this and are prepared to handle it, but we know it will be a tough challenge.”

JKT’s player, Hassan Kapalata, also weighed in, saying that his team is ready to fight. “We know we are up against a tough team, but we will go onto the field with respect for our opponents. We plan to play cautiously and ensure we get good results,” he concluded.
