Shun tribalism, religious differences, urges Biteko

GEITA: DEPUTY Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Dotto Biteko, has called upon Tanzanians to reject tribalism and religious divisions ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections later this year.
Dr. Biteko made these remarks on Monday during a public rally in Lyambamgongo Village, Bukombe District, Geita Region.
He emphasized that the hallmark of effective leadership is the ability to unite people and collaborate with communities to advance development goals.
“We must ensure our names are in the Permanent Voters’ Register or update our information to participate in electing competent leaders. Leadership is about uniting people and setting an agenda for community development,” he stated.
Dr. Biteko stressed the importance of evaluating leadership candidates based on their principles and track record rather than their financial status.
“In my view, a leader who engages with the community in development initiatives is the right choice, irrespective of tribal or religious backgrounds.”

Furthermore, Dr. Biteko urged Bukombe residents and Tanzanians at large to refrain from animosity based on political party affiliations.
“Our primary focus should be nation-building, not allowing political differences to sow discord to the extent of breeding enmity.”
“Do not let political affiliations divide us. It is disheartening that political disagreements could lead to people ceasing to greet each other and becoming adversaries.”
“To my fellow members of CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) and supporters of other political parties, let us welcome and hear each other’s viewpoints.
Let us provide a platform for constructive dialogue while remembering that CCM also has a significant role in shaping our nation.”
