School heads urged to ensure children attend classes
KAGERA: BUKOBA District Commissioner Erasto Sima has directed school heads to ensure that all children enrolled in Nursery and Standard One, as well as those selected for Form One, attend classes.
He also urged parents to fulfil their obligations by providing their children with necessary school equipment and contributing to school meals.
To illustrate the progress in enrolment, DC Sima said that in Bukoba District Council, 6,339 pupils were selected for Form One, including 3,311 girls and 3,028 boys.
As of January 10, 4,780 pupils had collected their joining instruction forms, representing a 75 per cent collection rate. In Bukoba Municipality, 3,268 pupils were selected, with 2,075 having collected their forms by January 10, indicating a 63.4 per cent collection rate.
“Access to school and quality education is not only a matter of individual justice and equal opportunities, but also crucial for societal development,” he said here on Tuesday.

Mr Sima further said that quality education provides a solid foundation for a child’s lifelong learning, encompassing academic, social and emotional development.
He added, “Schools play a vital role in fostering students’ relationships, identity and overall well-being.”
Speaking recently during the inauguration of Bumbwini Misufini Secondary School in Zanzibar, President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the government is aware of the critical role of education in preparing Tanzanians for success in a competitive global economy.
“Our goal is to create experts, not just scholars. Education must translate into skills that benefit individuals and the nation. Skilled professionals are essential for Tanzania development,” President Samia said emphasising the need for practical knowledge alongside academic achievements.
She said the inauguration of Bumbwini Misufini Secondary School stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to advancing education, fostering innovation and empowering Tanzanian youth to contribute meaningfully to the nation growth.
