DAR ES SALAAM: Scania Tanzania to supply gas-powered buses for BRT project Tanzania is set to receive a new fleet of modern buses specifically designed for the country’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as the East African country gears up to revolutionize the transport sector in Dar es Salaam.

The gas-powered vehicles are being manufactured and supplied by Scania Marcopolo.

This was revealed by Scania Tanzania, the country’s largest supplier of heavy-duty vehicles, through a short video clip posted on the manufacturer’s official Facebook page.

“A new bus with a modern design, specially designed for Tanzania, will soon enter the BRT roads! Watch the video to see the first appearance of this attractive bus…,” Scania Tanzania stated in the post, generating anticipation among the public.

The introduction of these buses is part of Tanzania’s broader initiative to upgrade its infrastructure, particularly in Dar es Salaam, the nation’s commercial hub.

The BRT project is poised to significantly improve the city’s public transport system, offering a faster, safer, and more reliable mode of transport for its residents.

As the city awaits the arrival of the new buses, construction of the BRT infrastructure is actively ongoing. Major progress has been made, with some areas already paved and several DART bus stops under construction.

The government has secured funding from the World Bank (WB) to support this transformative project under the Dar es Salaam Urban Transport Improvement Project (DUTP). A significant portion of the funds has been allocated for the construction of the Dar es Salaam BRT infrastructure – Phase 3: Lot 1, covering roadworks over a 23.33-kilometer stretch.
