Samia to embark on six-day working visit to Morogoro
MOROGORO: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to begin a six-day working visit to Morogoro Region starting on Friday.
A key highlight of her visit will be the inauguration of a new sugar factory in Mkulazi, with a production capacity of 50,000 tonnes of sugar annually.
Morogoro Regional Commissioner Adam Malima said this yesterday while addressing journalists about the president’s upcoming visit.
“President Samia’s extended visit is an honour for our region. We encourage all residents and citizens to show their support by turning out in large numbers at all the scheduled events,” said Malima.
During her visit from Friday to August 7th this year, President Samia will tour the districts of Gairo, Mvomero, Kilosa, Kilombero and the Municipality of Morogoro. She will also hold a public meeting at Jamuhuri Stadium in Morogoro Municipality.
The visit aims to review development projects across various sectors, reflecting the significant financial investment by the government to enhance the region’s economic and social progress.
Mr Malima further said that President Samia will inspect 14 major projects, including the new sugar factory in Mkulazi, located in the Mbigiri area of Kilosa District.
The Mkulazi factory aims to reduce Tanzania’s reliance on imported sugar and address domestic shortages. It is a joint venture between the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and the Tanzania Prisons Service. Besides sugar production, Mkulazi also cultivates sugarcane and generates thermal electricity
President Samia’s itinerary will commence in Gairo District with inspections of the district hospital construction and road projects managed by the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) and the Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS).
She will also engage with local residents. The following day, the president will continue her tour by inspecting industrial production and irrigation projects.
President Samia will also launch the “Tutunzane programme” in Mvomero District. This initiative aims to foster harmony and cooperation between herders and farmers.
On that day, President Samia will also officially open the Mkulazi Sugar factory, marking the start of its production activities.

This visit comes just three weeks after President Samia’s seven-day working tour in Katavi and Rukwa regions, where she launched several development projects and held rallies.
According to the 2022 national census, the Morogoro Region has a population of approximately 3.2 million people. The area is known for its arable land, which is used for crop cultivation, as well as its pasture land and forests. Additionally, Morogoro serves as a base for hikers and campers due to its proximity to the Uluguru Mountains.
