Samia names Dodoma’s Nanenane Exhibition venue the John Malecela grounds

DODOMA: TANZANIAN President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially announced that the Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition Grounds in Dodoma will now be named Dr. John Samwel Malecela Grounds, in honour of the retired statesman who served the nation for many years in various high-level positions.
President Samia made the declaration today, Friday, during her keynote address at the national celebration of the Nanenane Farmers’ Day held in Dodoma. She said the decision reflects the significant contributions made by Dr. Malecela to the country, particularly in the agriculture sector and national leadership as a whole.
“I now have the honor of announcing that this ground will be named Dr. John Samwel Malecela. Our elder, who has served in many government positions and is still with us today. For what he can do, he remains with us—and what he cannot, he tells us: ‘I may not make it there, but I am with you in spirit’,” President Samia told the thousands in attendance.

President Samia further emphasized the importance of honoring and respecting elder statesmen who have served the nation patriotically, noting that their insights and wisdom remain valuable for national development, even after they retire from public office.
The renamed grounds will now serve not only as a center for agricultural exhibitions but also as a lasting tribute to the leadership and patriotism of veteran leaders like Dr. Malecela, whose legacy continues to inspire present and future generations.
