KILIMANJARO: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has conveyed her condolences to Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu following the death of the area Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Dr Tixon Nzunda in a tragic road accident.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Director of Presidential Communications, Sharifa Nyanga, the Head of State also sent condolences to relatives, family and friends for the demise of their beloved one.
President Samia said she received the news of the tragic demise with great sad- ness.
Meanwhile, Vice Presi- dent, Dr Philip Mpango yesterday visited the family of the late Dr Nzunda in Kilimanjaro Region to offer his condolences.
Speaking to mourners, Dr Mpango said the nation has lost a hardworking leader, who spent his time serving the public adding: “Dr Nzunda was patriotic, a man of integrity and a God-fearing person who always executed his duties diligently.”
He said the government joins the family in mourning the passing of a leader, patriot and friend.
Dr Mpango asked the mourners to pray for the deceased and comfort the fam- ily during the difficult time.
The VP also expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the driver, Al- phonce Edson, who died along with Dr Nzunda on Tuesday.
Earlier, Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Mr Babu said the accident occurred at the junction of Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) when the RAS was heading to Airport to re- ceive the VP, Dr Mpango.
Shortly before the accident, Dr Nzunda met with development stakeholders from Namibia at the RC’s conference hall.
Before being appointed as RAS of Kilimanjaro Region, the late Nzunda was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
He also served as Deputy Permanent Secretary (Education) at President’s Office (Regional Adminis- tration and Local Governments(PO-RALG).
Dr Nzunda also served as Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) of Rukwa Regional Secretariat, Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) at the President’s Office of Public Service Management, Secretary for Public Service Leaders, Ethics Secretariat and Principal Administrative Officer at President’s Office- Public Service Management.
