Samia issues directives to enhance health sector

DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Prime Minister’s Office to reinforce the Human Resource Health Multi-sectoral Coordination Committee.

This committee, which includes the Ministry of Health, TAMISEMI, Public Service, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and private sector representatives, is to be strengthened to effectively fulfill its mandate.

The Head of State issued the directives while addressing a symposium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday to commemorate the three-year anniversary of former President Benjamin Mkapa’s death, reflecting on the late leader’s life and legacy.

Furthermore, President Samia directed the Ministry of Health to conduct a national survey to assess the current status of health professionals in the job market.

According to President Samia, the survey aims to understand the health workforce outside medical centers and in the broader job market.

She further directed that professional council meetings be convened to discuss how to integrate this external workforce and address the country’s current healthcare needs.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation has been tasked with developing a health diplomacy strategy to secure advanced training opportunities for health sector employees at international health science universities.

“This initiative aims to engage these institutions and seek opportunities such as scholarships or affordable training programs,” said President Samia.

She emphasized the importance of health professionals from both sides of the union meeting regularly to discuss ongoing health challenges and foster cooperation.

Equally, President Samia said the legacy of the late President Benjamin Mkapa continues to influence the health sector.

President Mkapa is remembered as the Father of Institutions, Systems, and Reforms. During his tenure, many institutions were established, systems implemented, and significant reforms carried out.
