Samia commends, promises support to TAWCA
ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has lauded the Tanzania Association of Women Certified Accountants (TAWCA) for its significant contributions to the country’s development.
In a speech delivered at the 7th Women Leadership Conference 2024 in Zanzibar, President Samia praised TAWCA’s achievements and pledged the government’s unwavering support.
Zanzibar’s Second VicePresident, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, read President Samia’s speech on her behalf.
“As a government, we will continue to be strategic partners with TAWCA, working to improve the working environment, promote equal development opportunities for women accountants and prepare future leaders from within the profession,” she stated.
President Samia emphasised the importance of women’s leadership in driving sustainable development and encouraged TAWCA members to continue serving as role models for gender equality.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for women accountants and investing in their professional development.
She commended TAWCA’s plans to construct a new building in Dodoma and urged all accountants to support this initiative.
In addition to its professional development efforts, TAWCA has also been actively involved in social and economic initiatives, including poverty reduction and supporting victims of child marriage.

President Samia acknowledged TAWCA’s valuable contributions in these areas.
The conference featured sessions on health, leadership and ethics, providing participants with valuable insights and skills.
The Association’s Chairperson CPA Dr Neema Kiure thanked both the Zanzibar and Union governments for creating an enabling environment for women accountants to flourish.
She noted that TAWCA has grown from 18 members in 2015 to 1,011 this year.
The association has engaged in various supportive activities, including providing books to schools, financial management education to victims of child marriage and disabilities and training on the proper use of loans.
Mr Juma Makungu Juma, Zanzibar Minister of State for Finance and Planning, speaking on behalf of Dr Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, also praised TAWCA.
“We value the work of women accountants in our country, recognising them as leaders in financial matters.”
TAWCA was also acknowledged for its crosscutting roles in financial services, consultations, life skills and entrepreneurship and empowering around one thousand women through educational and economic initiatives.
The conference covered topics such as embracing one’s authentic self, breaking barriers and ethics in action.
The conference participants began with sessions led by specialised medical doctors, who addressed increasing health issues like blood pressure, breast cancer and cervical cancer, urging participants to adopt healthier lifestyles and undergo regular health checks.
