SADC team lands in Tanzania to observe the General Elections

DAR ES SALAAM: JUST a few days before the country enters into the General Elections, the Southern African Development Community Electoral Observation Mission (SADC-SEOM) has arrived in the country to observe Tanzania’s elections in accordance with Article 8 of the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2021).

The delegation, led by the former Speaker of the Parliament of Malawi, Richard Msowoya, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation to introduce themselves before beginning their duties, expected to end on November 9, 2025, after the inauguration.

The delegation was welcomed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,  Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo at the ministry’s office in Dar es Salaam who informed them that Tanzania’s foremost commitment, especially during the election perio,d is to safeguard peace, democracy, and the rule of law to ensure the safety of all Tanzanians and foreign residents in the country.

Moreover, he assured them of the country’s full cooperation with both domestic and international election observers at all times.

On his part, Mr Msowoya stated that his delegation is in the country to carry out its duties in adherence to all SADC-SEOM procedures and without violating the laws and regulations of Tanzania.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the SADC Organ Troika, the SADC Electoral Advisory Council (SEAC), and the SADC Secretariat, and on the Tanzanian side, attendees included the Deputy Attorney General, Samwel Maneno, the Registrar of Political Parties, Judge Mutungi, a representative from INEC, Cecilia Foka, a representative from ZEC,  Khamis Issa, and officials from the Office of the President, State House.
