Rotary club launches ambitious global grant project

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam has announced the launch of an ambitious Global Grant project, aimed at improving education, empowering teachers, and promoting environmental sustainability in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam Region.

Recognising the importance of a conducive learning environment, the project donated 1,000 desks to five primary schools: Kunduchi, Kisauke, Salasala, Twiga, and Mtakuja.

The function including the handover was presided by President Nikki Aggarwal of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam.

“Numerous studies have shown that a conducive learning environment is important for a child’s academic progress. The donation is part of the efforts to support the need to end the shortage of desks in public schools. “This project ties with our ongoing signature project… we have given a total of 3,572 desks after this global grant, valuing at 453m/-,” he said.

President Nikki also mentioned that through a global grant initiative, they will train 80 teachers and plant 2,000 trees in the local community.

“Planting for a greener tomorrow, the move is in alignment with Rotary International’s commitment to environmental responsibility,” said Nikki.

On training, the initiative will provide training for 80 teachers through the “DIT” programme, equipping them with innovative teaching methods.

He said the action shows the club’s unwavering commitment to improving education in the region. In the meeting, PDG Sharmila Bhatt uttered thanks to the Rotary Club of Vancouver, who partnered with them to ensure the project was becoming a success.

Kinondoni District Commissioner Saad Mtambule thanked the rotary for the gift of education which he believes will create an ever-lasting impact.
