KAGERA: KAGERA Regional Education Officer (REO), Mr Michael Ligola has warned parents against denying their female children the right to education.
Equally, he underscored the importance of educating girls, saying education would save girls and women from violence against them.
“Joint efforts were needed to ensure that girls get equal education like boys. Experience has proved that girls can perform well in life if given chance. We have laws in place that protect women, we must apply them to ensure women rights are exercised accordingly,” he said.
Expounding, he said nowadays most women have become good leaders and bread earners, citing President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Minister for Defence Dr Stargomena Tax and Speaker of the Parliament, Dr Tulia Ackson as vivid examples.
“Some parents have stopped their daughters from attending school so that they can take dowry and the daughters fall into early marriages. We cannot remain silent while these girls are deprived to get their basic right to education,” he said.
