Relief for Karatu residents as 590.05m/- water project launched
ARUSHA: THE Rural Water and Sanitation Authority (RUWASA) in Karatu District, Arusha Region has completed construction of 590.05m/- million water project to supply water to residents of Chemchem Village in the Ward of Rhotia.
This project will bring sigh of relief to more than 6,000 residents in the area, who were trekking long distances in search of the precious liquid.
The availability of clean and safe water in the area helps to reduce infectious diseases caused by contaminated water.
Speaking during the reception of the Uhuru Torch yesterday, Arusha’s Ruwasa Regional Engineer, Joseph Makaidi said that the availability of clean and safe water in the area will also boost economic activities and saving livestock from dying because of lack of water.
Mr Makaidi disclosed that the completion for the project was due to the involvement of the citizens and philanthropists called Youth with a Mission.

The project was constructed at the cost of 590.05m/-. He noted that among the 590.05m/-, the citizens contributed 25m/-, while 8m/- came from the philanthropists and the government dished out 557.05m/-.
According to him, the project can produce 7,000 litres of water per hour with 18 water extraction stations.
Launching the project, the leader of Uhuru Torch, Mr Godfrey Mnzava commended the efforts made by Ruwasa in ensuring that people get access to clean, safe and reliable water services.
He instructed the residents to protect the water sources and its infrastructures from vandalism, so that it continues to provide much needed services to the people.
“The government is constructing water infrastructure and bring services closer to the people… it is the responsibility of everyone to protect and take care of the infrastructures,” he said.
The leader also called for closer collaboration between the residents and community water management body (CBWSO) for effective provision of services.
