RC pledges stronger Public Private Partnership
KILIMANJARO: KILIMANJARO Regional Commissioner (RC) Nurdin Babu has reiterated the regional government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private sector in development activities, describing it as a key driver of economic growth.
Mr Babu made the remarks recently while opening a session of the Kilimanjaro Regional Business Council. He noted that the private sector remains the engine of development and that numerous economic and social achievements in the region have been realised through strong cooperation between the government and private investors.
“Due to the successes achieved through collaboration between the government and the private sector in Kilimanjaro, the regional leadership, through the Regional Business Council, has initiated a development-oriented competition involving all districts in the region,” he said.
He explained that the competition seeks to recognise districts that create the most favourable investment climate.
“The district that creates the best environment for doing business and attracting more investors will receive an award at the annual Regional Business Council meetings. Last year, Same District emerged the winner, followed by Siha, while Rombo took third place,” added Mr Babu, who is also Chairman of the Kilimanjaro Regional Business Council.
Presenting resolutions of the meeting, Secretariat Member of the Regional Business Council, Mr Elisha Nyamaina, said participants called on relevant authorities to revive non-operational industries to create new job opportunities and increase government revenue through taxes.
Another resolution urged authorities to maintain proper statistics on jobs created by the private sector, given its major role in employment generation. Mr Nyamaina further said the council resolved to encourage all residents and institutions in the region to plant trees to improve environmental conservation.
In addition, the meeting called on every household to enrol in the Universal Health Insurance Scheme recently launched by the government. Earlier, Kilimanjaro Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr Kiseo Nzowa, urged leaders and citizens to view challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles.
“Every challenge carries an opportunity. Instead of complaining, people should use challenges to create positive results for themselves and the community,” he said.
