RAS: Allocate funds to improve education infrastructure

DODOMA: DODOMA Regional Administrative Secretary, Dr Khatibu Kazungu, has directed council directors in the region to allocate funds in their budgets to upgrade education infrastructure in order to improve teaching and learning environments.

Dr Kazungu issued the directive while closing a working session for secondary school heads, ward education officers and officials from the eight councils of Dodoma Region.

He said despite significant investment by the sixth-phase government to improve school infrastructure, outstanding challenges remain and require immediate attention from local government authorities.

“The government has done a tremendous job in upgrading infrastructure in this sector. However, despite these efforts, there remain challenges that we, as Local Government Authorities, must play our part in resolving. I take this opportunity to instruct council directors to set aside funds in their budgets to address these challenges,” he said.

Dodoma Regional Education Officer, Mr Kiduma Mageni, urged school heads to devise long-term solutions to the challenges facing their institutions rather than waiting for intervention from councils or higher authorities.

Meanwhile, Kondoa District Executive Director, Shaban Millao, said council directors have a responsibility to support schools and teachers in addressing infrastructure gaps and other needs, noting that efforts will be intensified to improve the learning environment.

Dodoma City Council Chief School Quality Assurer and Acting Regional Quality Assurer, Mashaka Mnjallo, highlighted progress recorded in the region, including the registration of 27 new secondary schools and 44 primary and pre-primary schools in the 2024/25 period.

He added that although the region had planned to inspect 580 schools, a total of 752 institutions were inspected, surpassing the target.
