Radio station suspends broadcasting services as fire guts studio

ZANZIBAR: Zanzibar-based radio station Mjini FM has temporarily suspended its broadcasting services after a fire gutted the studio and destroyed key equipment.

In a statement issued by the radio station’s Executive Director, Sallam Sharaff, the fire broke out earlier on Friday, causing serious damage.

No casualties have been reported so far, according to the Mjini FM boss.

“We are cooperating with authorities to establish the causes of the accident,” Mr. Sharaff said.

He added, “We understand the importance of Mjini FM in our community, and we are ready to rebuild and resume our normal activities as soon as possible.”
