Preterm babies’ caregiver gifted 45m/- house in Dar

DAR ES SALAAM: A residential house valued at 45m/- has been handed over to Mariam Mwakabungu (26), a caregiver who has dedicated herself to supporting preterm babies at Amana Regional Referral Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The house, located in Chanika–Zavara on the outskirts of the city, was donated by an anonymous philanthropist and constructed by the Doris Mollel Foundation with support from other contributors.

This generous gesture follows another milestone in Mariam’s journey. On July 20, 2023, she received a government contract through the Ministry of Health, just a day after President Samia Suluhu Hassan praised her efforts and gifted her 2m/-.

Mariam was handed the property as part of the World Prematurity Day celebrations. She arrived at the location blindfolded, accompanied by her husband, Christopher Nyoni (30).

Expressing her gratitude, Mariam said: “First, I want to thank God. My heartfelt appreciation goes to the Doris Mollel Foundation. I feel like I’m dreaming.

“I also want to thank the Ministry of Health and Amana Hospital because, without them, I don’t know where I’d be. I’m grateful to the Amana Public Relations Officer for sharing my story and to all the ward in-charges who taught me my work, making this possible.”

This remarkable act highlights the Doris Mollel Foundation’s commitment to recognizing and empowering individuals who make a difference in the lives of preterm babies.
