President Samia to hand over fishing equipment

MWANZA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to grace the distribution of fishing equipment to fishermen and fishing groups in the Lake Zone regions.

Mwanza Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Amos Makalla told journalists that President Samia is expected to arrive in Mwanza Region on Monday, and is scheduled to distribute the fishing gear on Tuesday in an event which will be held at Nyamagana Stadium.

The distribution of the fishing equipment has been coordinated by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, and preparations are 100 per cent complete.

“I ask residents from Mwanza Region and neighbouring regions to come out in large numbers starting with the reception of the President on January 29 at the Mwanza Airport. On Tuesday I ask the residents of the Lake regions to come out in large numbers at Nyamagana Stadium for the important activity of handing over the fishing equipment,” he said.

He said that the gates of Nyamagana Stadium will be open on Tuesday from 6am in the morning, asking residents of the Lake zone regions to arrive early at the stadium.

A total   of 55 boats will be provided to   989 fishermen from the Lake zone regions. Mwanza Region expects to get 26 boats, Mara will receive 11 boats and Geita will get 9 boats. Kagera Region will get eight boats while Simiyu region will receive one fishing vessel.
