President Samia, other EAC heads of state attend Geingob’s burial

NAMIBIA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan was among the leaders from the East African Community (EAC) bloc who attended the national funeral of Namibia’s President, Dr. Hage Geingob, in Windhoek on Saturday.

Accompanying President Samia were former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete and Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Vice-Chairman (Mainland), Abdulrahman Kinana.

Other heads of state from the bloc in attendance included Kenya’s Dr. William Ruto and Burundi’s Evariste Ndayishimiye.

Dr. Geingob, 82, passed away early on Sunday, weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.
He is being buried today.

Geingob had been in charge of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and COMESA member states since 2015, the year he announced he had survived prostate cancer.
