DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Young Africans for making it to the CAF Champions League (CAF CL) quarter-finals.
Via her Instagram account on Sunday, the Head of State writes: “I congratulate Yanga for doing well in the group stage of the Champions League and qualifying for the quarter-finals.
“This is a big historic success for the club and the country’s sports sector, you have brought happiness to millions of your fans and Tanzanians in general.”
Yanga cherished a 4-0 triumph over the Algerian side CR Belouizdad at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, enough to steer them to the last eight phase of the competition with a game in hand.
On March 1st, Yanga face Al Ahly of Egypt in their last fixture of group D to be played in Egypt, any outcome will be friendly for the Tanzania envoys while Belouizdad welcome Medeama in a dead rubber.
As it stands, Al Ahly tops group D with 9 points, Yanga are second with 8 points, CR Belouizdad sit third courtesy of 5 points while Madeama are bottom with 4 points.
