ARUSHA: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has highlighted former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa’s ability to stand by his beliefs without disparaging others as one of three key lessons Tanzanians should glean from the late Laigwanan.
She underscored three main attributes to be emulated from the late Prime Minister Edward Lowassa, emphasizing his capacity to uphold his principles without resorting to abusive or demoralizing language, which she deemed essential for a successful country.
During the state burial ceremony of the late Premier in Arusha on Saturday, the Head of State remarked that Lowassa was a principled and determined politician who mentored many youths in politics.
Reflecting on the 2015 general election, President Samia recalled Lowassa’s move to CHADEMA, where he contested as a Presidential candidate without resorting to uncovering their weaknesses, insulting, or spreading falsehoods.
“Lowassa was raised within the CCM party. However, when he decided to join another party, he continued to advocate for his policies and articulate his ideas without resorting to insults, mockery, or falsehoods about anyone. Even upon his return to the CCM, he refrained from speaking ill of the opposition,” President Samia remarked.
She further stated, “There is a significant lesson to be learned here about the importance of engaging in discussions with mutual respect, tolerance, and politics that foster development. This demonstrates a high level of political maturity and sets a positive example if we aim to honor Lowassa.”
