President Samia calls for gratitude on 63rd Independence Day

ZANZIBAR: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged Tanzanians to use the 63rd Independence Day anniversary to express gratitude for the country’s developmental progress.

In a message shared on her X account (formerly Twitter), President Samia extended her best wishes to all Tanzanians, encouraging them to take pride in their independence and achievements.

“Happy 63rd Independence Anniversary to us all. Let us use this special day to thank Almighty God for the significant strides we are making in development as a nation,” she wrote.

She further underscored the importance of upholding nation’s core values of peace, unity, and solidarity, describing them as the backbone country’s continued success.

“Together, we must continue to protect and uphold these values, which form the foundation of our achievements,” she emphasized.

President Samia directed that funds initially allocated for the national event be redirected to support social development projects.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa announced in Dodoma on Thursday that the focus of this year’s celebrations would shift to community-driven initiatives.

These include tree planting, cleaning public spaces such as markets, hospitals, and care homes, as well as organizing sports competitions, seminars, and discussions to highlight Tanzania’s progress since independence.

The 2024 Independence Day theme is: “Strong Leadership and Citizen Participation Are the Foundation of Our Development.”
