Premier League clubs bolster squads
TANZANIA: THE Mainland Premier League clubs have made significant moves in the January mini-transfer window, as teams aim to bolster squads in preparation for the second half of the season.
With the league’s second half set to begin soon, clubs have been busy to strengthen their rosters by bringing new signs to meet their goals and stay competitive.
Leading the charge in the transfer market are some of the league’s biggest clubs, including Azam, Young Africans, Simba, Mashujaa, and Dodoma Jiji.
The teams have been actively pursuing new signings to improve performances and push for success. Azam have made notable acquisitions, signing Ivorian defender Zouzou Landary from Afad Djekanou on a four-year deal until 2028 and attacking midfielder Zidane Sereri, who joins from Dodoma Jiji on a five-year contract until 2030.
Yanga completed signings of Congolese winger, Jonathan Ikangalombo and right back Israel Mwenda from Singida Black Stars.
Simba, another heavy-hitter in Tanzanian football, has added Congolese international, Eli Mpanzu to their ranks, further solidifying their midfield.
Tabora United have also strengthened their squad with the arrival of goalkeeper Jean Amonome from Gabon and holding midfielder Cedric Zemba from Cameroon.

Mashujaa from Kigoma have signed Danny Lyanga from JKT Tanzania, while Singida Black Stars have secured the services of Ivorian forward, Serge Pokou.
Coastal Union, too, have bolstered their attack with the signing of Malian international striker Amara Bagayoko.
In a related update, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has confirmed that the league will resume in the first week of February 2025 with postponed fixtures.
The full fixture schedule, along with further updates, will be announced shortly.
The delay in the league’s resumption follows the Confederation of African Football (CAF)’s decision to push forward the CHAN finals from February to August this year.
Furthermore, TPLB has urged all clubs to intensify their preparations, focusing on both the technical aspects of their teams and the necessary infrastructure, such as stadiums, which will undergo inspections before the league’s return.
