Port’s improvement, health centres, road expansion priorities in Samia’s tour of Ruvuma

MBAMBA BAY: HIGHLY improved capacity of the Ndumbi port, building new health centres and expansion of the road infrastructure are key projects, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate, Samia Suluhu Hassan, paraded in her tour of Ruvuma Region.

Today Samia continued her campaign tour in Ruvuma Region with a rally at Mbambabay, Nyasa District, where she addressed hundreds of enthusiastic supporters.

Samia highlighted the government’s achievements in Nyasa, pointing out key projects including the completion of Ndumbi Port, which has boosted annual cargo handling from 40,000 tonnes to 100,000 tonnes, easing the transportation of people and goods.

She also cited the upgrading of Nyasa District Hospital, the construction of new health centres, the recruitment of 316 new staff, school projects, energy expansion, and road infrastructure improvements.

Looking ahead, Samia pledged more investments to accelerate development in Nyasa. In infrastructure, she announced plans for a 1,000-kilometre railway from Mtwara to Mbambabay, new roads linking ports, a bridge across the River Ruhuhu, and highways connecting Ruvuma to Morogoro.

On social services, she promised more health centres, dispensaries, and schools, stressing that social sector projects remain a top priority. In energy, she revealed that all villages in Nyasa are already connected to electricity and pledged to extend power to every hamlet while establishing a substation to address low-voltage challenges.

Samia also touched on agriculture, assuring that her government will continue addressing crop pricing, strengthening warehouse receipt systems, establishing affordable farm equipment leasing centres, and building agro-processing industries.

In employment creation, she outlined upcoming projects such as a fish drying plant, a coffee hulling facility, and an international market that will stimulate trade and job opportunities for Nyasa residents.

On fisheries, she pledged to boost fish cage farming, supply modern fishing gear, introduce rental fishing boats, and provide a rescue boat for Lake Nyasa. She further assured that her administration will work to resolve land conflicts between villages and protected areas.

Samia concluded by reaffirming her commitment to sustaining and expanding development in Nyasa, saying her next government will build on the achievements already delivered to improve lives and unlock new opportunities for the people of Ruvuma.
