Polisi crowned BD Division One League Champions
DAR ES SALAAM: POLISI basketball team has emerged as the champions of the Dar es Salaam Division One Basketball League after a thrilling 64-60 victory over Stein Warriors in the final match held at Don Bosco Oysterbay over the weekend.
Haleluya Kavalambi, the Technical and Competition Director of the Basketball Dar es Salaam Association (BD), confirmed the successful conclusion of the league, with both the champions and runners-up securing promotion to the Basketball Dar es Salaam League (BDL) for the upcoming season.
Kurasini Heat also earned a spot in the topflight league after defeating Mlimani B.C. 55-48, joining Polisi and Stein Warriors in the BDL.
“The league was highly competitive, with every team giving their best. The level of play was intense and one of the most positive aspects of this year’s league was the discovery of new talents, which is crucial for the sport’s development,” said Kavalambi.

Kavalambi also highlighted that the final match was one of the best in the history of the Division One League and congratulated the winners and all teams securing promotion.
Polisi’s Lawi Mwambasi was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and awarded the Best Rebounder title with an impressive 236 rebounds.
Mwambasi attributed the team’s success to early and effective preparation, which played a key role in their undefeated campaign. “I want to thank my teammates, this award reflects our collective hard work and teamwork,” said Mwambasi.
He also praised Polisi’s management for their dedication and support, believing it was instrumental in their victory.
Mwambasi urged the Police Tanzania management to continue providing ample preparation time ahead of the BDL, acknowledging that the competition will be even tougher.
