Police nab 60 suspects in Katavi

KATAVI: POLICE in Katavi Region have arrested more than 60 suspects for allegedly involving themselves in various criminal acts in the region.

Regional Police Commander Ms Kaster Ngonyani told journalists on Tuesday that all the suspects were arrested last week following the ongoing police operation in the region.

The RPC told journalists that six people were arrested for killing a couple and that Police were still interrogating them.

Moreover, 13 suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of a giraffe and elephant carcasses. The suspects were also found with skin of lion and scales of pangolins whose values were yet to be computed.

The regional police boss added that during the operation 29 people were arrested with 175 litres of illicit brew while five were caught with stolen cows valued over 6.71 m/-.

“Seven people were arrested in possession of narcotic drugs such as marijuana, all suspects are being interrogated by our officers and they will be taken to court immediately after the completion of investigation,” she noted.

The RPC added that during the operation Police seized two homemade firearms, two mattresses and a TV set.

She said some of the equipments were being used to commit crimes while others were stollen properties. She asked the public to continue sharing useful information that will enable police to curb crime in the region.
