Police, journos urged to safeguard peace

KIBAHA: POLICE in the Coast Region have emphasised their commitment to maintaining strong relations with journalists, particularly as the country approaches the General Election.

Regional Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Salim Morcase, said during a Regional Dialogue on the Safety and Security of Journalists that police officers and journalists must maintain a good working relationship to ensure peace and unity during and after the election.

The dialogue, held recently in Kibaha Municipality was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and the media while promoting public awareness for the greater good of the nation.

“The Police Force has undergone reforms that have strengthened our relationship with journalists. This is evident in the way we now collaborate in the Coast Region,” he said.

ACP Morcase urged both police officers and journalists to put national interests first by embracing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s 4Rs philosophy Resilience, Reforms, Rebuilding and Reconciliation which guides the nation’s unity and progress.

“Journalists must adhere to professional ethics and police officers must perform their duties responsibly. Each of us must uphold professionalism, remembering that citizens depend on us for safety and security,” he added.

RPC Morcase commended journalists in the region for their constructive reporting, noting that their work helps the government operate more efficiently while keeping the public informed about ongoing development efforts. He encouraged them to continue their good work.
