Police in Zanzibar to be vigilant during Eid holiday
ZANZIBAR: POLICE will be vigilant to ensure the safety of people during the Eid al Fitr, the acting Regional Police Commissioner for Unguja Urban –West, Abubakar Khamis Ally has said.
He told journalists here that the police to be deployed will also focus on tourist spots, as well as trade and entertainment venues.
“We ask for maximum cooperation from the people so that criminals can be easily identified and also control road accidents,” he said.
Ally explained that the UrbanWest region is where many people live with many activities, and that they are well prepared to be vigilant throughout the Eid al Fitr festival.
“In strengthening security, we will work in collaboration with other security agencies present here,” the Acting RPC said as he urged parents to avoid allowing children to go out on their own.
In addition, he said there will be enough security officers deployed in all entertainment grounds, and for patrols using foot, cars, and motorbikes.
He said some of the roads will be closed for vehicles in the evenings to allow free movement of people on foot, “We urge car owners to respect temporary changes in road usage.”
“Parents should not let their children go alone to entertainment venues, and also leave their homes without someone because there are some criminals who use the occasion of the holiday to break into houses and steal, or loot various things,” he said.
