Police in Mwanza nab 300 suspects on various crimes

MWANZA: POLICE in Mwanza region have arrested more than 300 suspects accused of being involved in various crimes.

Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbroad Mutafungwa told journalists on Saturday that all the suspects were arrested this week.

He added that the suspects were arrested following ongoing operation in the region,   mentioning Nyamagana, Ilemela, Magu and Misungwi as districts with the large number of suspects.

Mr Mutafungwa explained that a total of 335 suspects were arrested, of whom 133 were questioned and taken to court.

He said 202 suspects are still being interrogated by police, adding that they will be taken to court when the investigation is completed.

“As a result of these patrols which are continuous, we have achieved success in preventing and controlling criminal incidents in various areas,’’ he said.

However, among the items seized in the operation include more than 50 different types of mobile phones, narcotic drugs such as marijuana and equipment used committing crimes as well as property stolen from various places.

He has asked people to continue sharing information with police to curb crime in the community and help take legal action against all those who will be identified while giving a strong warning to criminals to refrain from such acts.
