PM pushes for timely projects completion

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa has directed Regional and District Commissioners to supervise all development projects in their respective areas, so that they are completed on time and start providing services to the citizens.

Mr Majaliwa ordered that all the projects which are funded by the government in the district and municipality councils must reach 90 per cent in completion stage by the December 2024.

“Regional Commissioners… make sure you have actual time information on the progress of the projects, identify which projects have been allocated funds and confirm if are completed, for the case of stalled projects, investigate their root causes,” Mr Majaliwa ordered, yesterday in a virtual meeting with regional and district committees.

He hosted the virtual meeting from the Prime Minister’s Office in Dar es Salaam.

“Completion of the projects instils hope and confidence to citizens,” Mr Majaliwa said.

On the other hand, he demanded RCs and DCs to closely monitor production of food in their areas in efforts of enabling the country to continue being food sufficient and produce surplus.

He also urged them to carry out survey on the quantity of food available in warehouses, saying their data can act as basis for planning tangible measures for maintaining adequate food availability in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Majaliwa instructed RCs and DCs to ensure all revenues from the district and municipal councils are deposited first in bank and later on get budgeted on where to be spent.

“Effective government revenue supervision should be your permanent priority agenda. Without doing so we will fail to implement our plans,” he said.

Adding “you have heard our president (Samia Suluhu Hassan) putting more emphasis on revenue collection which is for funding development projects.”

Mr Majaliwa also stressed on the importance of regional and district leaders addressing citizens’ problems, regulating environment conservation, promoting use of clean cooking energy and ensuring security and defence as well as harnessing irrigation.
