PM orders PCCB to complete probe on school’s funds misuse

MARA: PRIME Minister, Kassim Majaliwa has ordered the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) to complete investigations against a teacher accused of misusing funds and materials for Kinesi B Primary School project.

Mr Majaliwa made the order during the public meeting with Rorya residents held in Rorya District in Mara Region, yesterday.

“There is no reason to continue embracing dishonest people who derail efforts of the government on peoples’ development project… conduct investigation day and night so that it is completed within a week,” Mr Majaliwa ordered.

Mr Majaliwa said that the government provides funds for implementation of people-centred development projects, insisting the funds must be used as intended and not to be spent for the interest of a few people.

The PM said that government disbursed 540.3m/- for implementation of Kinesi B Primary School project where the teacher who was in charge of supervising the project, allegedly stole the funds and equipment, stalling the project.

According to the Premier, the teacher is accused of stealing 24m/-, 80 roofing sheets, 50 fans, one gate, 100 bags of cement, 20 pieces of gypsum, paint buckets worth 11m/-, electric cables as well as causing 9m/- debt to a project contractor.

Meanwhile, Mr Majaliwa said that as the preparations of drafting the Vision 2050, are ongoing, the citizens should come forward to give their views.

He also called on citizens to come forward to participate in the local government election that are expected to be held later this year.

He also told residents of Rorya to continue trusting President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan in her campaign aimed at relieving women from water woes.

“Our President Dr Samia is doing a tremendous job… we all need to continue supporting and trust her in this campaign. The government she is leading intends to bring water to all areas, so that Tanzanians can get clean and safe water service close to where they live,” he said.

The PM made a statement immediately after inspecting the Komuge water project in Rorya District.
“You have to trust your government, it is strong and will continue to serve you in all social basic needs including health, water, roads and education,” he said,

The Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso said that for the water project is going on well.
He said for the project to be completed, it needed to have a reliable water source, a water tank, water treatment area and distribution infrastructure all of which are available in the area except the water treatment plant, which will be built soon.

“We will build a water treatment plant, there is a tank but it is not enough and we will build a big one of 500,000 litres because water is important to people’s life, I am instructing the Director General of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) to disburse 720m/- this week for the project.” Mr Aweso said.
