PM commends Yanga, Simba for excellence
DODOMA: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has applauded Tanzania’s leading football clubs, Yanga and Simba, for their outstanding performances both domestically and on the continental stage during the 2024/2025 season.
Speaking during the closing session of Parliament yesterday, the Prime Minister praised Yanga for winning the Mainland Premier League title, and commended Simba for reaching the final of the CAF Confederation Cup — achievements he described as a testament to the growing strength of Tanzanian football.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Yanga for emerging champions of the Mainland Premier League and I equally applaud Simba for reaching the final of the CAF Confederation Cup,” Majaliwa said.
Yanga secured the league title following a 2-0 victory over rivals Simba SC at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Simba made history by advancing to the CAF Confederation Cup final, drawing 1-1 with Morocco’s RS Berkane in the second leg played at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, after a 2-0 defeat in the first leg away in Morocco.

The Prime Minister underscored that the success of both clubs reflects the progress of football in Tanzania, noting that their achievements have helped raise the nation’s profile in international competitions.
“Our clubs continue to raise the national flag high in international tournaments,” Majaliwa said.
He went on to commend all football stakeholders, club officials, and the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) for their efforts in developing the sport across the country.
“These achievements are the result of the hard work and commitment shown by our players, club leaders and the federation. I urge all stakeholders to continue investing in football for even greater success in future,” he added.
