DODOMA: MORE than 6,000 land allottees at the Mtumba and Kikombo areas of the Dodoma City Council have been issued with a 21-day notice to settle outstanding 55.4bn/- , failure of which the plots will be re-advertised.
Speaking to reporters in the capital city, the Head of Government Communications at the Dodoma City Council, Mr Denis Gondwe, said the city has completed a preliminary verification exercise of plot debtors Mtumba Zone II, Mtumba Zone III and the Kikombo area.
“The purpose of this exercise is to identify individuals who have not fulfilled their payment obligations for plots in these areas. The results will be publicly disclosed to promote transparency and accountability in the management of public land.”
He explained that the verification revealed a large number of individuals, institutions and companies that have not completed payments for plots they were allocated after applying for.
Gondwe said the Dodoma City Council has issued a 21-day notice requiring all debtors to clear their outstanding balances within the given period.

He explained that Mtumba Zone II has 1,915 debtors owing 28.8bn/-, Mtumba Zone III has 2,594 debtors owing 20.6bn/-, while the Kikombo area has outstanding payments amounting to 5.9bn/-.
Overall, the total outstanding amount stands at 55.4bn/- which should be settled within three weeks only, according to the authority.
“We call upon all plot debtors to come forward and complete their payments within the stipulated time,” he said.
He added that failure to pay for the plots has caused major inconveniences to the Dodoma City Council, including delays in the implementation of infrastructure projects such as road opening, electricity, water supply and other essential services in surveyed project areas.
He noted that it has also affected the provision of other social services, as the unpaid funds were earmarked for implementation of the council’s budget plans.
