Playoff pressure mounts Dodoma Basketball League

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dodoma Basketball League (DPBL) delivered an eventful Round 6 over the weekend at Chinangali Park, with key performances, close finishes and notable shifts in both the men’s and women’s standings.

As the playoff race progresses, competition remains high across the board.

Central Vipers secured two important wins, starting with a 92–45 result over Netfit Boys, followed by a narrow 80–79 victory against NSEI BBall Club. These results moved the Vipers to 11 points, placing them fifth on the table.

DB Panthers extended their unbeaten run, beating Kisasa Heroes 70–61 and Premier BBall Club 83–43. With 12 points and a 6–0 record, they remain second, behind Kisasa Heroes.

Odilo BBall Club defeated BMH BBall Club 106–32, marking the largest winning margin of the round. Odilo now has nine points from six games and sits sixth.

Despite their loss to DB Panthers, Kisasa Heroes remain top with 15 points from eight games and a +243 point differential.

In the women’s category, Bright Queens handed Netfit Ladies their second loss of the season with a 34–26 win. Both teams now have eight points from five games, but Netfit Ladies stay in first place due to point differential.

The match between Spurs Queens and DB Pantelin was postponed. Spurs remain third with seven points and aim to close the gap in the coming rounds. DB Pantelin, still without a win after four games, remain at the bottom of the standings.

Martina Joseph, head of communication for the Dodoma Regional Basketball Association (DORBA), said the 2025 edition, which began on 18 July, is progressing well.

“We have nine men and four women’s teams competing in a round-robin stage, followed by knockout quarterfinals, semifinals and finals starting from 12 September,” she said.

The season will conclude with the All-Star Weekend on 30–31 October.
