DODOMA: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Investments (PIC) has directed TTCL Corporation to expedite its efforts to keep pace with technological advancements and expand its communication services to reach all Tanzanians, particularly those in rural areas.
In a special seminar held in Dodoma last weekend, PIC Chairman Mr Augustine Holle emphasized the critical role of the communications sector in the country’s development and urged TTCL to take a leading role in ensuring universal access to quality and affordable services.
“We acknowledge TTCL Corporation’s progress, but we seek greater speed in reaching all corners of Tanzania,” Holle stated. “TTCL should strive to become a communications leader not only in Tanzania but across Africa.”
The PIC committee highlighted the rapid pace of technological change as a significant challenge for TTCL Corporation. The emergence of new technologies necessitates constant adaptation to maintain competitiveness.

“TTCL should leverage new technologies like 5G to enhance service delivery and efficiency, particularly in both urban and rural areas,” Holle suggested.
Moreover, the committee emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure to ensure widespread communication coverage.
“TTCL needs to lay a national fiber optic backbone to enable high-speed and reliable internet services for all Tanzanians,” the committee emphasized.
In response, TTCL Director General Moremi Marwa expressed gratitude for the committee’s advice and pledged the corporation’s commitment to implementing the recommendations.
“We recognize the importance of these recommendations and will work diligently to address them. Through collaboration with the government, we aim to establish TTCL as a leading communications company in Tanzania and Africa,” Marwa stated.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for TTCL and the PIC committee to discuss the development of the communications sector in Tanzania.
