Parliament’s first session postponement delays the budget process
DODOMA: THE first session of the third meeting of the 13th Parliament has been postponed, delaying the official start of the government’s budget reading process.
The announcement was made today, March 31, 2026, by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Daniel Sillo, who confirmed the postponement without providing a specific reason.
During the session, Deputy Speaker Sillo read a statement from the Speaker of Parliament informing members about the passing of William Lukuvi.
He noted that Lukuvi’s funeral was taking place today in Idodi village, Iringa Region, presided over by the Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba.

Lukuvi passed away on March 25, 2026, at the Benjamin Mkapa Referral Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.
The Deputy Speaker asked parliamentarians to observe a one-minute silence in his memory. Following this, he requested the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (TAMISEMI), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, to read documents on behalf of the Prime Minister, who was absent.
Attention is now focused on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, when the Prime Minister is expected to officially open the proceedings and deliver the government budget.
