Parliament invites public inputs on eight bills

FOUR parliamentary standing committees are inviting stakeholders to provide their views on eight critical legislative bills currently under review

DODOMA: FOUR parliamentary standing committees are inviting stakeholders to provide their views on eight critical legislative bills currently under review.

The committees will host public hearings from August 14 to 16 this year to ensure that a broad spectrum of opinions is considered before the bills are presented for further deliberation in parliament.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Parliament of Tanzania, the Governance, Constitution and Legal Affairs Committee will gather feedback on August 15-16 at the Parliament Office in Dodoma.

On the same dates, the Social Welfare and Community Development Committee will also meet. The Industries, Trade, Agriculture and Livestock Committee will convene on August 14 and the Infrastructure Committee will also meet on the same day.

The Governance, Constitution and Legal Affairs Committee will review several bills, including the Law School of Tanzania (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, 2024, the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No.2) Bill, 2024 and the Prevention and Combating of Corruption (Amendments) Bill, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare and Community Development Committee will deliberate on the Social Security Laws (Amendments) Bill, 2024, as well as the Child Protection Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill, 2024.

In addition, the Industries, Trade, Agriculture and Livestock Committee will focus on the Fair Competition Act (Amendments) Bill, 2024. The Infrastructure Committee will consider the Tanzania Airports Authority Bill, 2024.

“All stakeholders are encouraged to attend these sessions and present their insights and suggestions. Those unable to attend in person can submit their comments via post to the Parliamentary Office or through email at cna@bunge.go.tz and kamati@bunge.go.tz,” the statement reads in part.

The consultations are part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that legislative processes are inclusive and reflect the needs and opinions of the public.
