Paralympic body seeks 16m/- for 3rd swimming talent gala  

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Para Swimming Association (TPSA) is seeking 16m/- to thoroughly prepare for the upcoming 3rd National Para Swimming Talent Identification Gala.

Para swimmers drawn across the country will convene at Shaaban Robert Secondary School’s swimming pool in Dar es Salaam on October 1st this year to unmask their talents.

According to a statement issued and signed today, September 9, 2025, by TPSA General Secretary Ramadhan Namkoveka, the main focus of the event is to identify talented para swimmers capable to represent the country in major para swimming games.

“The main objective of this competition is to identify new talent among swimmers with physical, visual, and intellectual impairments (including cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome).

“Furthermore, these games aim to develop skills, encourage greater participation, and build awareness about the importance of sports for people with disabilities in the country.

“Our primary goal is to form a national team that will compete in international competitions and achieve the dream of representing Tanzania in the upcoming Paralympic Games,” reads part of the statement.

It further states that the total budget designed for the contest is 16m/-; hence, it calls upon companies, institutions, and individuals to sponsor them financially or materially.

“Their contribution will help to make this competition a success and assist in the development of the sport of swimming for people with disabilities in the country, as we aim to prepare for major international competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

“We truly believe that with your cooperation, we will be able to change the lives of our swimmers and put Tanzania on the map of international sports,” it says.

The statement also reveals that the registration window is now open, and the deadline for registration is September 29, 2025.

“We ask those who are eligible to take advantage of this important opportunity to register so that they can take part in this life-transforming swimming gala.

“Our focus is to ensure the number of participants increases, thereby giving us a greater opportunity to discover more talent for our national team.

“We urge swimmers to start practicing and preparing fully so that we can increase the quality of our competitions each year,” the statement concludes.
