Over 1,300 Tanzanian youths land jobs abroad

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has, within just two months from November to December 2025 facilitated overseas employment for 1,323 Tanzanian youths, with efforts underway to secure over 50,000 opportunities in various countries.

Speaking on Thursday during a send-off ceremony for 109 youths departing to work abroad, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Labour, Employment and Relations, Mr Deus Sangu, said that by the end of this month, the number of youths who will have secured such opportunities is expected to reach 1,434.

“During November and December 2025, up to this January, the sixth phase government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has made significant efforts to get employment opportunities for young people abroad,” Mr Sangu said.

He added: “As we speak today, while bidding farewell to 109 youths, a total of 1,323 Tanzanian youths have already been deployed to various countries for employment through government coordination in collaboration with private employment agencies.” Mr Sangu listed the destination countries as Bahrain, Denmark, Germany, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He explained that the 109 youths currently departing will be employed in various sectors, including nursing, construction, electrical works, tiling, domestic services, welding, bus driving, cargo-handling machinery operation and laboratory technology.

The minister said the government was continuing to improve the employment environment both locally and internationally by strengthening employment management systems, enhancing legal protection for workers, providing pre-departure training for Tanzanian youths, and expanding diplomatic relations with host countries.

“These efforts align with Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050, which aims to build a competitive, inclusive and resilient economy capable of generating employment opportunities for young people,” he noted.

Mr Sangu commended President Samia for strengthening diplomatic relations, which have played a key role in opening up employment opportunities for Tanzanian youths. He further revealed that in addition to the opportunities already secured, there are still 8,000 jobs available.

In collaboration with the private sector, the government has also announced 500 job vacancies for motorcycle drivers, which have received a positive response from youths. Assuring the youths of their safety abroad, Mr Sangu said: “The countries you are going to are safe. The government is closely monitoring and safeguarding your welfare, ensuring that all your rights, including salaries and contract terms, are fully protected.

After completing your contracts, ensure you return home safely to continue contributing to the development of our nation.” He noted that by the end of January, the government will announce an additional 1,000 employment opportunities from the 8,000 available, mostly targeting drivers from both urban and rural areas. Among these, 90 positions will be for automotive mechanics and air-conditioning technicians to work in Qatar.

Mr Sangu advised the youths to work diligently and with high discipline, noting that they represent Tanzania abroad and should uphold the country’s good reputation, values and cultural identity.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labour, Employment and Relations, Ms Zuhura Yunus, said that implementing the National Development Vision is a key component of executing the National Employment Policy of 2008, alongside various national strategies and guidelines.

She added that the Prime Minister’s Office continued to create an enabling environment for youths to access employment opportunities, enhance skills development, and promote decent work in line with laws, regulations, and established guidelines.
